September 28, 2021, our club had the privilege of hosting Dr. Vijah, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiology & Oncology for UMMC since November 2007. (UMMC is one of less than 90 in the U.S. for academic leaders.)
Dr. Vijay specializes in radiation treatments of prostrate, lymphoma, sarcoma, lung, brain, and pediatric cancers.
Prior to UMMC, he served as Professor and Chairman of Radiology and Oncology at the University of California in Sacramento, CA.
He completed his residency in Radiation/Oncology in 1985 from Michael Reese/University of Chicago.
Dr. Vijah had previous oncology training in India before coming to the U.S. in 1982. He has received numerous awards and distinctions including Master of Public Health from George Washington University in 2019, a fellow of the American College of Radiology, a member of FASTRO, which is the most prestigious recognition award available to AM College of Radiology Oncology members for Exceptional achievement.
He has authored 5 books and 242 peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Vijah’s brilliance in his medical field is matched by his compassion for his patients and his fellow UMMC administration and staff.
It was a pleasure to have him provide examples of types of patients with prostate cancer and whether we would select surgery, radiation, medical prescription, or none of the above.
His style of presentation was not a lecture, but one that involves Q&A his audience.
Dr. Vijah provided each member an opportunity to take home one or both books he brought that he authored at no charge.
