Helen Keller Day

At the 1925 Lions Club International Convention, Helen Keller was invited to speak to the Lions gathered.
The last paragraph of her speech was as follows. “The opportunity I bring you Lions is this. To foster and sponsor the work of the American Foundation for the Blind. Will you now help me hasten the day when there will be no preventable blindness, no little deaf-blind child untaught. No blind man or woman unaided. I appeal to you Lions you who have your sight, your hearing. You who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourself Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness. I Thank You.
The Lions present gave Helen Keller a standing ovation. The motion was made to make Helen Keller an honorary member of Lions Clubs. Every person there seconded this motion!
